Three-time Most Valuable Player Jokic endures a 'heartbreaking' leg setback.

The Denver Nuggets star won the NBA's MVP honor in three of the past four years.

Triple National Basketball Association MVP Nikola Jokic endured a "devastating" knee injury while the Nuggets fell 147-123 against the Miami Heat.

The star player was hurt towards the end of the second quarter following an accidental contact with teammate Jones.

The other player landed on the footwear of the big man, and he immediately collapsed to the floor clutching his knee.

The 30-year-old, that leads the NBA this season in rebounds and assists, had 21 points and eight dimes in the matchup before sustaining the setback.

Jokic is scheduled for an MRI on the following day to determine the seriousness of the problem.

"Immediately, Jokic understood there was a problem," commented Nuggets coach David Adelman.

"Injuries are part of the game. Anyone that gets hurt, it's gut-wrenching, especially somebody as special as him. We will know more tomorrow."

"We will continue together. Clearly, at this moment, I am more worried about Jokic personally and the frustration of facing something like that."
