New England Equal Best Winning Streak Since Brady Years with Triumph Over New York Jets
First-year player Henderson has scored five scores this season
New England tied their best victory streak from the Brady era as they beat AFC East rivals the Jets by 13 points in professional football
First-year standout TreVeyon Henderson shone brightly with three scores as the New England squad notched an eight-game winning streak for the initial occasion since iconic QB Tom Brady's closing campaign with the team in the 2019 season
Signal-caller Maye accumulated 281 yards and a TD, completing 25 of 34 passes
The triumph bolsters the New England's lead at the top of the AFC East as they improved to a 9-2 record, with the New York bottom after dropping to two victories and eight defeats
The opposing team had taken the lead at Gillette Stadium with quarterback Justin Fields scoring a short rushing score to finish the Jets' opening drive
But the New England answered in the second quarter as Henderson ran in two seven-yard touchdowns before the ball carrier hauled in a throw from Maye at the rear of the end zone midway through the third period to make it 21-7
"It was a crucial moment for him rising to the challenge, and it's been excellent for him to keep getting these reps," Maye commented on the rookie. "He desires to be great."
Justin Fields threw to John Metchie toward the end of the third quarter to narrow the deficit for the Jets but Andy Borregales kicked a pair of field goals in the fourth quarter as the home side closed out the triumph
