Keely Hodgkinson Concludes Campaign with Winning Performance at Athlos in NYC
The athlete achieved her personal best of 1:54.61 last year in the British capital.
The Olympic champion finished her 800m season with a win at the women-only Athlos meet in New York on Friday evening.
{The current Olympic champion, who secured third place at the global championships recently, dominated an impressive victory in 1:56.53 in what was only her sixth race in a season impacted by a muscle issue.
Fellow Briton and global silver winner Georgia Bell took the runner-up spot once more in 1:58.33, while St Vincent's Shafiqua Maloney (1:58.57) claimed third.
"I haven't competed much this year so it was probably less of a struggle for me to compete and be motivated to perform," stated the 23-year-old.
"The environment out there is incredible so it was extremely enjoyable."
The women-only event filled Icahn Stadium in its second edition, bringing a festive vibe to conventional athletics, with musical performances and special crowns substituting traditional winners' medals.
The tennis legend with 23 major titles Serena W., who is married to Athlos founder Alexis Ohanian, was on hand to award the victors with their crowns.
Previous champions took home sixty thousand dollars (forty-four thousand six hundred and three pounds) - among the biggest cash prizes in track and field.
The competition also drew some of the sport's biggest names, as the Kenyan triple Olympic champion and global record breaker Faith K. triumphed in the mile race, finishing in four hours 17.78 minutes.
The US Brittany B., the 200m bronze winner from last year's Paris Olympics, won the 100m and 200m double.
