Goalkeeper and defense

Nick Pope, Magpies, keeper, £5m – Nottingham Forest (home)

The Magpies boast a higher number of shutouts than any different side (four) while Forest have managed just a single goal in their last four games.

Fantasy coaches are losing faith in the previous campaign's unexpected performers.

Even though they did have the highest number of attempts (twenty-two) of any team in the previous round, it is hard to trust them away to the Magpies' solid backline – only Arsenal (3.9 xGC) have a lower xGC than the Newcastle's 4.6.

Bournemouth defender, Bournemouth, £4.9 million – Fulham (home)

There are justifications to select Senesi.

• Bournemouth's defensive unit has remained strong even after losing several important players in the offseason.
• It's evident he has become the best choice for defcon scores, with two bonus points in five of six fixtures.
• Fulham could be lacking an experienced striker, with Muniz and Raul Jimenez both potentially unavailable.

Gabriel (£6.2m) and Arsenal full-back (£5.8m), Arsenal – the Hammers (home)

Home vs West Ham, Fulham (a), Home vs Palace, Sunderland (a), Away at Burnley.

That's a favorable sequence for Arsenal and it makes sense to invest in their defenders.

The Brazilian brings his obvious goal threat to a strong shutout probability – he was taken off before the hour mark in midweek but that appears to have been a preventative measure.

At the same time, Timber – in addition to his two-goal haul against Leeds United – has made nine incisive passes and produced 2 big chances. Zero Arsenal teammate has a higher tally.

Dan Burn, Newcastle, £5 million – Forest (h)

Select the defender for the identical reasons as goalkeeper Pope.

He is facing a toothless Nottingham Forest side and the defender has earned defcon scores in half of his games.

Midfield

Antoine Semenyo, the Cherries, £7.8 million – Fulham (h)

First name on the teamsheet currently. Semenyo has only failed to return in one game so far – set and forget.

Bryan Mbeumo, United, £8.1m – the Black Cats (home)

Mbeumo is due, that's a certainty! More shots than any different midfielder and only Semenyo has had more efforts in the box.

Couple that with the Red Devils' league-high xG and you sense a haul coming.

Might that occur against the Black Cats? They have been superb at the back and shut out Nottingham Forest in the previous gameweek. However you still fancy the home side to net a few at home – their attacking threat hasn't really been the issue so far.

Arsenal winger, Arsenal, £9.8m – the Hammers (h)

Saka is a somewhat overlooked asset in FPL after his early-season injury, but a juicy run of games for Arsenal, beginning with struggling West Ham, suggests he could soon be a popular choice.

The Hammers' defensive display was not that impressive in their opening match under their new manager and certainly won't scare the Arsenal.

Might the winger resume penalty duties back from the striker now that he's fit again? He's a solid option without, an excellent selection if he does.

Crystal Palace midfielder, the Eagles, £6.4 million – Everton (away)

On a per-start basis, the midfielder has the highest xG among midfielders (he was seventh in that statistic last season).

He has found the net in three of his four starting appearances and faces an Toffees side whose results have declined in the last three games – unlike the Eagles who are eighteen unbeaten.

Forwards

Manchester City captain, City, £14.4 million – Brentford (a)

It's hard to leave Haaland out of your team at the moment irrespective of the opponent, but this trip to the Bees is a favourable one.

Brentford have a among the worst defence so far, for goals allowed and xGC. Only the Clarets have allowed more attempts.

Aston Villa striker, Aston Villa, £8.7 million – the Clarets (home)

Watkins is off the mark finally for the campaign and so too are Villa – they certainly will produce better football the remainder of the season than in their initial five matches.

Watkins has been underwhelming honestly, with only nine shots this season.

But he's up against the poorest defensive unit in the division and has the track record of three straight seasons with at least 15 goals, so feel confident selecting him.
