One of the original creators of the well-known frozen dessert company Ben & Jerry's has stated that corporate owner the multinational conglomerate blocked the launch for a new pro-Palestinian frozen dessert product.

Ben Cohen, who established the company with Jerry Greenfield, revealed how he will personally create the controversial product as part of a personal series showcasing causes Ben & Jerry's was prevented from addressing publicly.

Longstanding Conflict Involving Founders versus Corporate Owner

The recent announcement escalates the continuing conflict among the world-famous dessert company and its corporate parent, the UK-based consumer goods corporation that has owned the ice cream brand since 2000.

Both founders have asserted how Unilever along with its ice cream arm Magnum improperly prevented their company from "honouring its social mission".

The Fruit Sorbet becoming a Symbol for Solidarity

The entrepreneur stated through social media that he's developing a new watermelon-flavored frozen dessert, requesting consumer ideas for the product's name plus potential ingredients.

“I'm doing what they were prevented from doing,” Mr. Cohen stated in a cooking set. “I'm creating a watermelon-flavored frozen dessert that calls for lasting ceasefire for Palestinians and calls for addressing the harm that was done there.”

The watermelon has become a symbol for solidarity with Palestinians because of its coloration, that mirror the colors in the Palestinian flag – the distinctive four-color pattern.

Historical Social Engagement and Current Changes

In 2021, the ice cream company refused to sell its products in territories occupied by Israel, resulting in Unilever selling the Israeli operation over to an Israeli distributor, thereby permitting ongoing distribution in disputed territories.

This upcoming product line is being created through Ben's Best, the socially conscious dessert company which was first established in 2016 to support ex- US presidential candidate Senator Sanders via the product "Bernie's Return".

Management Shifts plus Future Intentions

The founder stated that he will develop other frozen dessert varieties focusing on concerns that Ben & Jerry's was prevented from speaking about openly due to Unilever.

The announcement comes after co-founder Jerry Greenfield stepped down from Ben & Jerry's in September, following many years with the organization, citing concerns regarding how the company's autonomy had been undermined after Unilever's decision to curb its social activism.

Previously, Ben Cohen commented how "Jerry has strong compassion and this conflict with Unilever was breaking it."

"My heart compels me to continue to work within the organization to advocate for corporate autonomy ensuring that the company can fulfill the social mission, the principles that it was founded on and has maintained for over 40 years," he told media outlets.
